Cultivation

Tamberg writes the following: Our breeding goals: Pure, uniform colors or clear color contrasts, good opening behavior and flawless color development under Central European climatic conditions, good branching, vigor and health.

Tamberg offers these notes on cultivation: The full development of daylily blooms (size, shape, and color) is significantly influenced by the plants’ water supply during the flowering period. A garden that is too dry during this time can lead to disappointing flowering, even for high-quality varieties. In contrast, fertilization, in our experience, seems to have less of an impact on flower beauty. It is of more importance for the growth of the plants.

The German daylily trials

The GdS (Gesellschaft der Staudenfreunde) quality assessment of new European daylily varieties is conducted in evaluation gardens in different climate zones. At the end of this process, the best varieties are awarded special distinctions. The evaluation does not focus on the varieties with the most spectacular individual flowers, but rather identifies the varieties with the highest overall score as garden plants using a detailed points system. Varieties that have received a special distinction can therefore be considered the elite among garden varieties, even if not all of them boast outstanding individual flowers.

Where to acquire Tamberg daylilies

Please note that specialist nurserys do not have every cultivar available at all times. At regular intervals the plants need to grow before further divisions can be made.
